Results from Yokohama Skim-O-rama Skimboard Competition
The Yokohama Skim-O-rama was a hit thanks to donations by Lulu’s Waikiki for a bunch of food, Dirty Dog eyewear, & Freak traction. There was plenty of big waves, the sand was super steep, light winds & good friends from outer islands. The full results are getting reviewed and will get posted at the HASL website but here are pictures of the top 3 places in each division.
22 & under – 1st Place Brenton Ogasawara from Oahu / 2nd Place Colin Camp, Maui / 3rd Place Jon China, Oahu
22 & over – 1st Place Kaeo Milles, West Oahu / 2nd Place Erik Covarrubias, Honolulu / 3rd Place Irving Taba, originally from Kauai now from Oahu
Women’s – We had 2 entries and after a few heats and tons of wave scores added up there was a difference of only ½ a point. In 1st Place is Natalie Nakasone form Oahu / 2nd Place Heather Graf from Maui. Yokes is a really mental spot with crushing shorebreak and these ladies were charging, good job.
Men’s Advanced Ca$h Prize – 1st Place Jesse Soloman form West Maui / 2nd Place Sean McClenehan also West Maui / 3rd Place Clark “Shark Boy” Camp 2009 HASL champ originally from Maui but now Oahu.
Congratulations to these guys and ladies and a big mahalo to all those that came out. The next HASL contest is the Maui Mele by Maui Skimmers & Save Makena on Saturday June 11th at Big Beach.
Check the HASL facebook page at Hawaii Amateur Skimboard League for more pictures and comments. If anybody has some pics to share post them there so we can see!!

Aloha from HASL,
Everything is looking good for the Yokohama Skim-O-rama this Saturday May 14th at Keawa’ula Bay, Kaena Point state park. Check in starts at 9am and contest starts at 10:00. The sand is steep and it only takes a little swell to make a mean shorebreak for good contest conditions.
Here’s what Yokes looked like this past Saturday, it was small but fun, pray for waves. http://www.youtube.com/user/dilldogg3000#p/a/u/0/a3q8Sua2Ilo
The Men’s advanced division will feature a cash prize to the top 3 places from the extra $25 added to the entry fee. We have some of the top skimmers in Hawaii coming out like Anthony “Ace” Conlon from Kauai, Dave “Stermanator” Sterman from North Shore & super ripper Jesse Solomon coming out from West Maui for his first HASL contest. And let’s not forget Sean McClenahan also from West Maui who’s gonna paddle his skim into the large yokes waves.
HASL is proud to announce Dirty Dog eyewear as a new exclusive sunglass sponsor that has joined for the long run. Check out their website at http://dirtydog.com/ to see their shades & pics of team rider & HASL 2010 champ Kyle “Little Man” Olson. Welcome Dirty Dog to the HASL family and ask how you can get a pair of their dope water shades that’ll stop you from going blind when surfing on a bright sunny day.
A big Mahaloz goes out to Freak traction for their cool traction pads, Victoria skimboards, Exile & of course locally made Maui Skimmers that are boards not just made for Maui but work good in all conditions.
Here are the sign up links for the contest this weekend, registration fees from the Dangerous Shorebreak event will be used towards the Skim-O-rama. Confirmation notices for those with credit will go out soon.
