No commentsDowning Hawaii Westside Shootout HASL
Note from Erik -
The Downing Hawaii Westside Shoot out HASL #5 of 6 was a hit. The waves showed up just as expected with good conditions & rippers from Kauai & Maui came down. The winners of each division won Da Kine skimboard bags that were generously donated by Downing Hawaii surf shop the sponsor for this contest. The winners also got a set of Freak traction pads donated by freakskim.com for their next board.
The Wahine Division Had Jasmine Joy take 1st & repeating her win from the Kauai Classic. Natalie N. took second which was really good because the waves were big. In 3rd was Angie Hoffman & 4th Nicole Lee,both visiting us from Maui.
In the 16 years old & under division, Colin Camp from Maui won 1st & got a Da Kine skim bag to take his board home in and not the towels he used on his way over. In 2nd is Alex Stannard from Oahu and Kanoa Akana in 3rd and both gaining important points for the league placings.
We had 8 competitors in the 17 – 21 division with a lot of talent. It was really close with only a 1.5 point difference from 1st through 3rd. But Eric Sterman took home the Skim bag and 1st place. In 2nd was Forrest Dein who also took 1st in Maui and in 3rd was Cameron Satterfield who took first in the Kauai Classic. It was definitely a Westside Shootout.
Old guys Division or 22 and up had the Shootout everybody was waiting for. Winner of the Da Kine skim bag is HASL board member John Tingey that pulled into a couple of hollow ones right on the sand that put him over the top. Matt Dillon took 2nd and Brandyn Benson who won this division in Maui got 3rd.
The Men’s Advanced had 9 competitors and was easily the best skimmers in the whole state. We had a couple of shootouts between Dave Sterman taking a close 4th to Sean McClenahan in 3rd and a super close call between Clark Camp taking 2nd and Keith “Party” Fowler just barely taking another win home this time. I think we could have called this contest the Keith & Clark show because these 2 were killing it all day.
HASL wants to thank everybody for coming out and the parents support for driving far. Also HASL is very thankful to the year long sponsors Downing Hawaii, Maui Skimmers, Victoria, Exile, Hawaiian Watersports in Kailua and now Kapahulu now offering discounts to HASL members, Greg with freesurfpix.com who takes pictures of skimboarding many days each week at Sandys, Especially Lulu’s Waikiki & Kihei restaurant for feeding us and raffling out a bunch of gift cards. And Mahalo to anybody who donated goodies for raffles, if I forgot anybody, Sorry!!
We look forward to November and the Exile Minishaka Shakedown at Sandys with after party and the years end awards at Tingey’s place just around the corner from the beach.
