EOS Riders Finish High on the UST.

October 17th, 2008 | Category: News

Congrats goes out to all of riders that competed this year! We had two of riders finish in the top 10. Paulo Prietto of course finishing #2 and Woody Harris finishing at #9. New comer to the EOS team Brenden Stevens finished #13, Mathieu Thibaud finished #17, Scott Flores #19, Hunter Poller #41, Brent Gretch #49, Keith Fowler #64. Of course you have to realize Hunter, Brent and Keith don’t go to all the comps. Keith only was able to compete in the Vic.

Thanks again to our riders! It was exciting to see you guys go head to head. Here is the news reel from the UST page:

The 2008 Season is in the history books and Bill Bryan has proven once again that he is the man to beat.  The top 10 broke down as follows:

  1. Bill Bryan
  2. Paulo Prietto
  3. Brandon Rothe
  4. Morgan Just
  5. Brad Domke
  6. Brandon Sears
  7. James Lovett
  8. Stephen Bradford
  9. Woody Harris
  10. Corbin Dull

While Bill had already secured the top spot going into the final event of the season, much was still up for grabs.  James Lovett came up huge by winning the event and making a last minute leap to seventh place on the tour.  Bill Bryan took second at Oktoberfest, further proving that he was the dominant competitor in 08.  Paulo snagged third place at the event, thereby further securing 2nd on the tour.

In a strange twist of fate, Morgan Just, Paulo Prietto, and Brandon Sears wound up together in a 3 man pre-quarter final.  This meant one of these top five UST competitors would be going home early, and that would create an opportunity for someone else.  Morgan and Sears were neck and neck in the standings.  If one of them lost, it would mean the other would jump ahead on the tour.  If Paulo lost, it meant Brandon Rothe would have a chance to regain the number two spot.  Paulo quickly put that to rest however, jumping ahead early in the heat.  In a very close battle for the other advancing spot in the heat, Morgan Just squeaked by, securing the 4th place spot on the UST and creating an opportunity for Brad Domke to jump into the top five.  Brad did just that.  By taking 4th place at the event, he barely edged ahead of Sears and took fifth overall.

Exile Main St. Oktoberfest #6

October 12th, 2008 | Category: Live contest update

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay today. This morning showed some amazing contest conditions, but just like yesterday, the afternoon wind got in it and turned it to mush.

Domke had one amazing barrel that might be one of the best contest barrels to have ever happened.

The final results ended up being close, but it was Jamie who pulled through and beat the UST champion, Bill Bryan.

1. Jamie Lovett
2. Bill Bryan
3. Paulo Prietto
4. Brad Domke
5. Sam Stinett
6. Morgan Just
7. Harley Nelson
8. Brandon Rothe

Blair Conklin continued to shred throughout the day, and his hard work paid off. He ended up winning his division, and really putting on an impressive show.

Congrats Blair and Paulo! And a special thanks to Exile Skimboards and Main Street Surf Shop for putting on a good show.

Thomas Frymann 4

Jamie Lovett 2
Chris Marciniak 4

Hunter Poller- EOS
Drew Peace 3

Morgan Just 2
Brendan Stevens- EOS 1
EJ Sanico 4
Brent Gretch- EOS 3

I’ll add more details as the heats happen

Woody Harris is slaying right now. Hunter Poller is nowhere to be found.

Brent Gretch had a super long frontside line just now, and is skimming really well. Brendan is really getting technical on these windy conditions.

The conditions have turned really sloppy. The wind is on it hard, and it’s really mushy.

Exile Main St. Oktoberfest #4

October 11th, 2008 | Category: Live contest update

The first heat of Pro’s was:

Bill Bryan 1
Harley Nelson 2
Koty Lopez 4
Keith Perry 3

The second heat is:
Paulo Prietto 1
Cheyne Terjesen 4
Tim Fulton 3
Tommy D 2

Paulo is skimming well, but it seems like the wind is definitely being a factor for him. The wind is starting to pick up and switch to slightly on-shore, making the lines to the left a little bit more difficult, and the wraps to the right a lot tougher to get to.

“I’m happy that there’s waves even though there’s wind.” When asked how he thinks he did, “I did alright.”

I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that the results were be more than just “alright.”

Exile Main St. Oktoberfest #3

October 11th, 2008 | Category: Live contest update

First heat is the 12-14, and EOS rider Blair Conklin is in it.

Blair is undeniably killing it. He’s pulled into 3 gaping barrels, and is destroying his heat.

Results soon

I asked Blair for his thoughts on the first heat of the contest… “The conditions are really good, it’s really nice to finally have good conditions for a contest.” When asked what he thought about the competition, he humbly named some of his friends who he felt would be good competition.

The author of this post can’t wait to see Blair skim more. The kids got an amazing frontside surf style slash, and pro-like smoothness on his backside wraps. Good luck Blair and congrats on winning your first heat!

Exile Main St. Oktoberfest #2

October 11th, 2008 | Category: Live contest update

Hey everybody,

First off, I can’t believe how cold it is…. but I am from south Florida, so I guess it’s all relevant.

The waves are lookin pretty nice, with some decet offshore winds.

As the tide backs out, the waves could end up being super fun, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

EOS New Team Addition: Rob Morris

October 09th, 2008 | Category: Interviews
Robs

Rob

Paul: Ok… let’s get the basics out of the way… how long have you been skimming? Where are you from? and what board do you ride?
Rob: Well, i’ve been skimboarding for about 4 years now, born in raised in St.Augustine, Florida. I am currently riding a custom Roush.
Pablo: How do you like their toad skin bottoms?
Rob: toad skin bottoms? haha sorry
Paul: bumpy on the bottom or is yours smooth?

Robs on top

Rob on top

Rob: mine is smooth
Paul: that’s what she said, I don’t know what that means, anyways
Rob: hahaha otherwise, at first i experienced some getting used to his boards, but now i absolutley love them
Paul: Did Eric see you skim?
Rob: Yes, my 3rd day in Santa Cruz i met Eric down at 26th he told me our styles are somewhat similar
Paul: He’s pretty intense
Rob: He’s awesome
Paul: Did he sign you up on the spot?
Rob: Actually no, i met him and began getting my feel for Santa Cruz. Later during my trip, we sealed the deal and I came home more stoked than ever
Paul: What brought you to Santa Cruz?
Rob: Hmm, when I first started skimboarding i always checked the skimculture.com website and saw the pictures of the insane liners throughout Santa Cruz, and after my first trip to Laguna, I wanted to try something different. As well as it was the only place I had available to crash out in California for the time I went
Paul: How crazy is that town?
Rob: Hahah insane, everything there was so comforting too.
Paul: how so?
Rob: The people. Most everyone I met there, even strangers on the streets were so chill. As well as the weather, no humidity and chilly at night and morning, as well as some of the best skim I’ve ever had in my life. Spots weren’t too crowded, and everything was pretty close which was good, because I was able to get around easily with Helm and Corey’s help, even taking the bus wasn’t so bad.

Robs Air Time

Paul: surf, wake, skate or mainly just skim?
Rob: I skated around to get here and there, and tried doling a few times, but I was always down to skim.
Paul: Do you try to copy any riders? or try to take notes on em? and who?
Rob: Hmm, well not so much, Corey Ryan is definitely one of the dopest riders I’ve ever seen, and gained somewhat influence from him while i was out there, but otherwise here in Florida, Domke’s “dank as steezy” style has always influenced me.
Paul: That kid has mad skills
Rob: word
Paul: Plans for the futuro?
Rob: Getting school done as fast as possible, and getting the hell out of here ha ha, hopefully moving to Santa Cruz. Then attending college in santa cruz, and wherever the wind blows from there

Rob: Overall, I’m real stoked to be a part of EOS now, as well as ROUSH, and hope to support you guys as much as i can. I’ve got to write an essay to get into taking college classes, so I gotta bail
thanks though Paul, ha ha stoked for the blog
Paul: ok brother… we’ll post it up good luck and thanks!
Rob:yep later
